About Us

The Group

The Pittsburgh South Writers Group began with two strangers at Bethel Park Library. After chatting about writing and editing, the two strangers concluded a need and expressed interest in a writers group south of Pittsburgh. Brainstorming took place over coffee as the concept and importance of the project began to form. The Group intends to hold meaningful and inspiring discussions on the topic of writing and publishing while concluding each monthly meeting with a group critique of submitted work. At the heart of the Pittsburgh South Writers Group are two passionate writers with intentions to help inspire and critique fellow Pittsburgh writers.

Holly Christine

Holly Christine is a Bethel Park resident and graduate of Washington & Jefferson College. After reading Emerson's Nature, she rekindled her childhood passion with writing and began to scribble. Two years after college and dealing with multiple deaths in her family, Holly released her emotions on paper. The Nine Lives of Clemenza, a spiritual novel which presents a unique twist on reincarnation, was completed in late 2007. After numerous agent and publishing house queries and waiting for approval for over a year, Holly took matters into her own hands and gave Print On Demand technologies a try. The book became popular with Amazon Kindle owners and still rests in the top 100 Independent Book downloads on Amazon. Her second novel, Retail Ready, is a satire of a hellaciously unexpecting workweek. For more on Holly, visit her website at Holly Christine Online.

Sandy Ward Bell

In 1987, Sandy took her Communications degree from Geneseo State University of New York and embarked on a journey to become a radio personality in Augusta, Georgia.  A year later, she became a DJ and promotion director at a rock & roll station.  Then, after a few years in Baltimore, she found herself in Venetia, PA, pounding out the final draft of her debut novel, which she plans to self-publish.  She is married to a radio programmer and a mother of a college freshman. The art of storytelling is her passion, which is why her husband of 20 years groaned when she announced she was starting a writing group in addition to attending three book clubs.  For more on Sandy, visit her website at Sandy Ward Bell.
