Minutes from 2-14-12 Meeting
Attendance: Doug, Keith, Delia, Cathy, Ryan, Patrick,, Ann, Robert, Melissa, Rick, Olivia, Wendy, Holly
I. Critique:
On this sweetest of days, we critiqued two submissions: Robert’s Divorcee in the Tall Grass and Rian’s This is What Living Like This Does.
Robert’s short story based on actual events was received well; a universal theme of the ending of the age of innocence. There were many good analogies, and it all thought it was a pleasant story, and we wanted more than a short story! Some were confused about POV, and a suggestion was made to frame the story in order to clarify that and to tie in the ending. A discussion ensued about showing, not telling, in order to move a story along.
Rian shocked us all with the ending; the group wanted to see a few more clues as to what was going to happen. It was very energetic, and many cited descriptions as favorites.
II. Other Business:
Keith ensured us that the 10 of Clubs project is underway; more on that in future minutes.
For Our Next Meeting on March 13, 2012 7-9 PM:
We will be critiquing submissions from Eric, Olivia and Melissa. Check out the website under Group Forums for the submissions closer to the meeting date, and see you there!
Respectfully submitted,
Wendy Hathaway Kelly
